@kevlin You had a talk on space and indentation some moons ago, if I recall correctly. I came upon the recording some time later, so I didn't comment at the time, but I think this rule works in all cases I can think of:

If any count of whitespace depends on the length of any lexeme, you're doing it wrong.

I'm sure there's a less pretzel way to express it, but I can't think of a counterexample. It avoids whether to break or not, but captures using spaces to create columns.

@jscalzi Choose your words carefully here. It seems equally universally true that there's a software stack to sink any hardware.

And for some reason, that often comes pre-installed.

@ellie copy / paste. I was forced to use a mac for a few months and literally the only positive was consistent M-x, M-c, M-v everywhere.

Also, the correct way should be to have key combo produce Cut, Copy and Paste keysyms, because those exist btw and then bind those.

@acb

@alice @webhat Sure, but who gets blamed if it goes slightly wrong? I use it too, but they're definitely dumping the responsibly to get it right on you

Hear, hear!

Yeah, I could see myself giving our kids a hard time for expressing themselves lazily, but never for swearing appropriately.

@alice @acb @webhat an example of Executive Function Theft, I think.

@richardstephens yeah, iirc, the "26 minutes ago" that docker says was when your image was created or whatever, that was done by the daemon, not the client. Maybe they fixed it since, but omg it was full of stuff like that.
@richardstephens by the people that localize / humanizes timestamps *on the server*?
