New book! “Tahara Manual of Practices” on the Chevra Kadisha (burial committee) of Bridgeport CT. Tahara is ritual preparation of a deceased’s body. Their minhag includes sharbelach (placing broken pottery over the deceased eyes & mouth) but not gepelach (resurrection forks). It refers to gepelach as “sticks”

Stopped by my local bookstore to pick up Rafael Rachel Neis book “When a Human Gives Birth to a Raven: Rabbis & Reproduction of Species” & look what was on the shelf Rena Rosser’s Jewish fantasy “Light of a Midnight Stars”
I'm interested in, but don't practice, Jewish meditation. Except maybe I do? Hitbodedut is a form of Jewish meditation & prayer where you talk directly to God about whatever. Anything. Like Tevye on the road in Fiddler. But do it often in an empty place. I do this and love it.
I can neither confirm nor deny any rumors that @kaijupoet & I are working on a podcast. What I can say is that I'm having fun putting together notes on Jewish monster hunter gear boxes & why specific fictional characters might choose different contents for their gearbox.
Along with sharbelach (pottery pieces over the deceased’s eyes and mouth), another common Jewish preparation for burial practice is to place dirt from Israel in the coffin. This a vintage bag for dirt that I picked up recently.
