I run The Intersection web and Mastodon instance.

I’m going to shut this instance down. It’s just soaking up capacity, we built it and they didn’t come. So, asked and answered … people don’t want or need to join a dedicated #mentalhealth Server instance. That’s ok, it was worth a test, but also it’s wasteful to use this compute capacity.

Blog: Reset, Refresh, Recharge

In this current environment of Big Tech layoffs, it is timely to remind ourselves that we are not indestructible and that we need to take time off in order to do our best work and be at our most happiest and energized.

Reset, Refresh, Recharge – The Intersection

This one's been in the draft folder for a long time! I love doing this, but has not always been the case. I've been lucky to have great coaches, managers and comms people help me get better and be successful on the biggest stages. It's an aspect of a role that matters to me, and when missing becomes a blocker. And so, todays topic is ...Presentations and Demos!

@rashmi indeed! my small instance is now using S3 as the storage back-end, have yet to go over the free tier in space, and my total monthly costs haven't broken $3 yet including nightly backups of the database and critical configs.

it's fun huh :)

@rashmi dang. With SD card or an SSD drive? Or did the device die?

In any case, Scott has you right, you can dial that back and save some money, look for 40-60% util and see how it goes.

@rashmi @shanselman

I have a raspberry pi (4GB) with an SSD drive. It’s running a small 5 person server with intermittent to moderate usage. Have not seen it go close to even 75% utilization.

It’s simple all-in-one setup, but it’s working like a dream.

Blog: Hooray for Generalists!

I’ll start by saying, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with being a specialist or just loving “one thing”. Frankly I am envious.

But I want to dedicate this post to the Generalists, to those of us that like multiple things, love roles with multiple aspects and/or bring together multiple disciplines.

The Intersection

If anyone here needs help and support, I run a site https://theintersection.app that provides help, guidance and support for people in the tech industry with their mental health. Do not suffer alone.

I’m also building a series of Voices where real people share, openly or anonymously, their stories. Your participation is welcome!
