I've been on Mastodon for about a month. I'm following about 15% as many people as I did on Twitter and I have just a little under 10% of the numbers of followers than I did on Twitter, but engagement here is about the same and the replies are much less likely to be spammy, abusive, and/or deranged.
@neil I guess proper consent doesn't necessarily solve those problems in practice (though *legally* it might) but it seems part of the same matrix. Or do you think consent is hopeless and you'd just ban certain practices?
