Today's #FOSSFriday is @signalapp. I have been using Signal since they were TextSecure and RedPhone and it is by far my favourite messenger. Add to that the high priority they place on communication security/privacy and it is an easy recommend. I pushed many friends and family on to it and many of them have become advocates of it over other apps too.
I ended up cheating and installing it on my #SteamDeck, where mapping custom controls is simple.
I fear that this game manual is #nerdsniping me into learning #dosbox Mapper...
My #FOSSFriday for today is Gnome Disk Usage Analyzer or Baobab:
https://apps.gnome.org/en-GB/Baobab/
It is an excellent way to visualise your disk space usage and I believe is installed in Ubuntu by default. I first came across something like this many years ago in KDE with Filelight. There are also server equivalents like ncdu that are super helpful when you don't have a graphical environment.
Disk Usage Analyser – Apps for GNOME

Check folder sizes and available disk space – A simple application to keep your disk usage and available space under control. Disk Usage Analyser can scan specific folders, storage devices and online accounts. It provides both a tree and a graph...

Noble Numbat 24.04 Wallpaper Competition

Happy Little Numbats We are pleased to announce the Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat) Wallpaper Competition! This release is special as it’s an LTS (Long Term Support) version, which means it will receive support for 5 years (up to 10 with Ubuntu Pro!). We need your help to compile an ensemble of truly special wallpapers to celebrate this very regal release. As in competitions past, we’ll be collecting the submissions here on the Ubuntu Discourse via this thread, but with a few changes this time a...

My #FOSSFriday for this week is KeyPass (https://keepass.info). KeyPass is a first-class password manager that doesn't require you to trust your sensitive passwords to a 3rd party or web service.

I personally use a mix of the official Mono version and KeyPassXC on the desktop, and Keepass2Android Offline on Android. SyncThing keeps the underlying files in sync. The KeyPass format even lets you easily sync any conflicts, e.g. if you edit on two devices when offline.

KeePass Password Safe

KeePass is a free open source password manager. Passwords can be stored in an encrypted database, which can be unlocked with one master key.

"Nightshade" is a tool that allows artists to subtly alter their digital artwork's pixels to disrupt #AI training sets. It causes AI model malfunctions, leading to errors like misidentifying objects. Alongside "Glaze," which masks artists' styles from AI scrapers, these tools address artists' rights and intellectual property issues in the AI industry. https://www.technologyreview.com/2023/10/23/1082189/data-poisoning-artists-fight-generative-ai/
This new data poisoning tool lets artists fight back against generative AI

The tool, called Nightshade, messes up training data in ways that could cause serious damage to image-generating AI models.

I stopped doing #FOSSFriday when nobody showed much interest in my original posts. It seems a handful of people found them recently and enjoyed them, so I'll try to pick it back up. I welcome you all to do the same!
