This is now all complete, and there should be no more downtime.
I also now have a secondary server, that will mirror the data on primary so that in the event this happens again, the impact to you, the users, should be minimal.

We had a few days of downtime recently, since Tuesday, July 18.
First, I am very sorry this happened.
Second, let me explain why this happened.
The server the instance runs on had hardware failure, which took time for myself in conversation with the provider to diagnose, as well as find an acceptable solution.
Once the solution was found, I had to configure the new server, as well as then restore my Mastodon backup.

There's a lot of shit flying in the #Fediverse lately and a lot of times perspective seems to get lost. Yes, there are things we need to talk about, and yes there are things we will not agree on. And that's okay.
But leave the pitchforks and torches out of this.
Fedi admins put in the hours and effort and emotion into making fedi happen. Sometimes they make decisions we might not agree with. We should criticize, but we should not pile-on.
3. Several other instance admins have communicated with Meta under NDA about this project, which is not at all what these kind of communities are about.
If there are any issues with this, please do let me know.
1. I do not have the funds to upgrade our hosting to something that could handle that massive influx of media and users.
2. The Hideaway was created to allow people to, as the name suggests, hide away from big social media, so I believe it is in the spirit of the instance to take this action.

So, I thought I would write a quick post to outline what the Hideaway will be doing in light of Facebook launching their own social network powered by activity pub.
It's quite simple, really. We're going to block it.
The reasons for this are many:
