Which really begs the question why a whole new platform is needed instead of simply implementing these features on Lemmy.
Technical reasons aside, there’s value in having a variety of platforms, so not all features are gated behind the decisions of the Lemmy maintainers.
What makes you think “handle the processing is people at they complete the immigration process” had to include anti-immigration police?
I get the feeling you don’t disagree with the parent post at all.
My childhood included my mother getting furniture that was decorative, but that we were not allowed to use.
Some was just because children are messy, but some was because the furniture was just old and couldn’t handle abuse from people sitting too hard or putting stress on unexpected angles.

This is already a thing that happens currently. Some admins/moderators don’t like being downvoted and ban people for “vote manipulation” because they vote on things in their feed.
It is leading to exactly that, where people are worried that using the voting system as intended will lead to exclusion from participation in some communities.
If you can set up a jury of their peers to convict them, then you’re on the right track.
The main moral argument against it would be lack of due process. While that should involve the courts, morally or ethically it probably doesn’t have to.
