We're kicking off 2019 with a new feature called "Four Songs." With "Four Songs" a member of a band is asked “what four songs by your group would you recommend to someone who has never heard them before?”
Our first four songs is from a familiar face, IDVex of 1/2 Southern North. These songs are the four she believes best introduces her music, which mixes elements of black metal and ambient, to those unfamiliar with her work.
Hailing from Botswana, the death metal band Overthrust have been churning out not only heavy music, but really good heavy music, for years. Their fanbase continues to grow and when you listen to "Vultures Don't Die," you'll hear why.
Velvet Acid Christ's album "Calling Ov the Dead" turned 20 years old in 2018. This album is the one where things really came together, with VAC establishing the sound and use of samples that would become its trademark for the better part of a decade.
With songs like "Phucking Phreak" and "Zix Zix Zix," you've got a sometimes scary album I'd recommend.
TAD is one of the many bands out of Seattle that was shoved under the grunge umbrella in the 1990s. By the time Inhaler was released in 1993, the shine of being "grunge" and "from Seattle" began to wear off.
That's too bad because Inhaler is a darn good album that's worth checking out.
The first day of fall is Saturday and what better way to welcome the new season than "Autumn Twilight" by Cathedral?
"Autumn Twilight" was on their 1992 EP Soul Sacrifice. After 26 years, it is still my favorite song by the band that took Sabbath-inspired doom metal to a new level, cementing the genre's future for decades to come.
In 2003, Edge of Sanity released a sequel to their landmark single-song album Crimson.
Crimson II, like its predecessor, is a single song 43-minute long song composed of different movements. Aside from the vocals, this album would fit more into the "power metal" category along with bands like Dragonforce and Blind Guardian more than the death metal one.

What can you say about 2013?
You can say it was a good year for old-school death metal. One of those reasons why it was a good year Immolation's "Kingdom of Conspiracy."
"I Don't Care" is a track from Obituary's 1994 album World Demise. It was released on Sept. 6 of that year on Roadrunner Records.
It's one of the few times that you see Obituary get pretty serious as far as messaging. Check it out, it's a pretty good song and video.
