i am sad that mastodon.lol is closing

i found community here

and i agree with @nathan that we should not be harassing ppl who play the wizard game

but

telling them that they are bad allies if they do is not harassment

and i don't care if telling them that they're wrong will "only make them more defensive" or whatever

when i call out bad behavior, it's not as part of a calculated strategy to produce some end

it's because that behavior IS BAD

and i have a moral responsibility to say so

It feels a bit ghoulish to jump in on another server's closure but for those who need a new home now that mastodon.lol is shutting down, we still have plenty of room to grow on retro.pizza! We're a queer-run (but not queer-only) nerd culture instance with a small but healthy community and an admin who is very old and calloused by the Transformers Fandom Message Board Wars of the '00s.

People made their websites worse in order to appease search engines and now search engines will be extracting the useful information that was buried under piles of SEO optimisation and serving it directly to users?

And there’s no apparent opt out other than preventing crawling, which would remove you from the search results anyway?

They’re in a race to see how much shareholder value they can create without anyone consenting to their exploitation.
