Well, there's a choice of viewing tonight in the adult section, but congratulations to the BBC who appear to have comprehensively out-scheduled their competition.
Fun subtitling “fails” like these are almost always not actually a mistake by the channel, but, less excitingly, usually in the home TV or set top box that creates a unique, one-in-a million error just on one person’s screen… which social media effortlessly lets millions of others enjoy too.
Also of interest is that while NCI seemed to do most of the running in captioning UK tapes, eventually other caption vendors got involved too, such as Captions Inc, seen here credited on the back cover of the UK VHS release of 'Bad Boys 2' - using the 'CC' logo rather than the NCI "Q" symbol.
By 1997 things had moved on with apparently over 1,000 titles available. I have to admit that a lot of this passed me by at the time, despite my interest in the field. I had (still have) a VCR with a PAL caption decoder built in, but only ever came across a few captioned tapes. By 1997 NCI's UK operation had become known as ECI, and if this (again from Television magazine, November 1997) is accurate, there were considerably more tapes released than I remember.
It seems far harder to find information on the internet these days. Search engines are not your friend and more often than not just surface forum posts confidently assuring people that some concepts (e.g. closed captioning on PAL VHS tapes) are "not a thing" and never happened. It's good that this stuff was documented at the time in old-fashioned paper magazines, which provide a little more permanence to the fine detail. (This from the UK's 'Television' magazine, February 1993.)
Do you want to get uninstalled? Because this is how you get uninstalled.
In the trial of Regina vs Magazines With Unreasonable Page Sizes, exhibit A is the first issue of Computer Shopper (UK) - 9 inches x 12.5 inches!! You can see that even the advertisers were used to something smaller.
OK, I’ll offer a clue. This will give it away as simple algebra, which is of course impossible to get wrong… oh god no!
The unparalleled ability of AI to synthesise the entire corpus of human knowledge leads to startling steps forward in insight and understanding. Let’s get started with a simple example.
It’s alive! That’ll do for now, the rest can wait until tomorrow— what, 4am already??!
