We went to Barcelona when our youngest was 5. At airport security the official (for some mad reason) motioned to our 5 year old to raise his arms to be patted down. 5 year old misunderstood the gesture, of course, and so hugged him instead. Cutest thing ever, poignant too.

It's definitely uncomfortable to have images of a self-immolation go by my feed lots of times today, but I believe it is Israel that must stop the bombing and occupation of Palestine and I support anyone who is acting toward that end.

I understand there will continue to be uncomfortable and traumatizing images online until a full ceasefire and an end to the occupation and apartheid state. The power to act differently and to end the genocide rests with Israel, and therefore the responsibility for my personal discomfort rests with Israel, too, and not with the people sharing those images.
