Crystallizing the Path Toward a Nuclear Clock

Researchers have made the most precise measurement to date of the excited nuclear state of thorium-229, a candidate isotope for an ultraprecise nuclear clock.

Physics

Nuclear clock just dropped, possibly improving time measurement by as much as six orders of magnitude.

Huge huge news.

Feels like Russia is just running the Vietnam playbook again to me.
Make big shit on campus, the police crack down, the media and the left go crazy, and no one pays attention to Ukraine or a certain presidential candidate. His legal woes, former president on trial for felony crimes, doesn't even make the cover.

PFLAG printed these amazing "Support Trans Youth" signs for us a few weeks back.

My eldest went around businesses in the neighbourhood with LGTBQ flags out front and asked if people wanted them for their stores, and they got more yeses than we had signs!

When we were walking back to the Trans Library after distributing the signs, one of the businesses already had their sign up out front!

Computation is measured in total petaFLOP, which is 10¹⁵ floating-point operations estimated from AI literature, albeit with some uncertainty. Estimates are expected to be accurate within a factor of 2, or a factor of 5 for recent undisclosed models like GPT-4.

This is an incredibly important development. I would approve of every Western nation adopting similar legislation.

The notifications should also go to financial oversight organizations and the intelligence community.
