Fighting for health care freedom in the states. Roots in Ohio, branches where sagebrush grows. What didn't kill me made me furious.
@guyjantic Words mean things. A sample is a study of data about part of a population. These are not sampled studies, they are cohort studies. Generalizing from cohort studies, esp when the results align with the majority of sampled studies, is stronger than generalizing from sampled studies. The reason is that sampling can incorporate various forms of error that make results non-generalizable even when they are statistically significant. You can dispute the cohort definitions, though. Go ahead!
@guyjantic linked records studies cannot be representative or random. They are studies of cohorts. For example, all children born in California in 1999 are included in the study, correlating the funding source for their birth (public vs private insurance) to child welfare allegations. This is not random or representative. It proves definitively that 1999 born infants whose moms used Medical had a 50% chance of being the subject of a child welfare investigation by 18. That's better than a sample.

@philipncohen unless you have a way to get another entire STATE to give UBI to 100% of residents, to verify that this outcome aligns not just with 100% of the existing research on UBI & CW (which relies on smaller data sets by many magnitudes) I suggest being excited that once more, linked records have proven that giving people money solves poverty.

Now, if you want to attack the measures of child abuse used in this quite robust study, go ahead, I'm listening...

@shrinkthinks vocational discernment: openings next at...? I want to refer an entire abortion clinic :)
@mattblaze The line at the hospital in New Haven went around the block. When dusk fell and it became clear that there were no survivors who would need transfusion, people wandered home to find out what happened to the neighbors who went into the city to work. The first impulse was 'how can I help'. This is too often forgotten.
@uspolitics be fair, while he apparently was awarded a JD by Capitol (Columbus, OH) he never attempted to pass the bar. So how would he know what’s illegal?
@LAbdelaaty It's got layers of ironic observation, from someone who was raised with the US-centric savior narrative w/r/t refugees & adopted a child who was orphaned by war, only to learn that...it's complicated. May not fit into your framing! Your class looks interesting.

@Zandarvts one interpretation of his words: abortions should be legal until the baby is 3 months old, which I think is radical & unacceptable to everyone

the other interpretation is that he does not know that trimesters and viability are both made-up nonsense Harry Blackmun's clerk invented by consulting with other (male) lawyers, but that they are distinct from one another within that category

I hope it's the second one
