To anyone wondering: the long fight for equal rights isn't long because we're taking our time? It isn't a strategy choice to do two steps forward 1 (or 3) steps back, it's the result of bigotry.
Every single group fighting for their equal rights wants those rights granted as of *yesterday*, not in some fictional future when the time is right.

*40 years came from the commenter, the struggle for queer rights has been going on - with wins and setbacks and everything in between - for as long as there's been queer oppression, and in fact is *caused* by oppression, because you don't have to fight for rights you already have, eh?
