@vertigo_invivo That’s what I imagine, how people pursued their passion in the West. They discussed and exchanged letters with total strangers across countries. They were always collectivists and not individualists.

@vertigo_invivo Never heard it. Even in Kannada, I’ve come across only in literature and formal writing. Never in common parlance.

@vertigo_invivo I guess this is true for all the flawed institutions including the caste system. There are no properly structured alternatives. And financially secure individualists aren’t motivated and don’t understand the need for collectivist structures.
@vertigo_invivo I don’t know if that make any difference to me, but I felt Bluesky’s founding philosophy is good. If I understand correctly without a left wing user community that supports PBCs, it would suffer.
These right-wing minorities who align with the Left are a menace and disastrous for the cause.
I still remember the racist jokes made against Deve Gowda when he became Prime Minister. Or his own wry comment that people liked Ramakrishna Hegde more than him because Hegde was fair-skinned, while he was dark. It’s a different matter that he has since done enough to damage his own reputation. However, it doesn’t help when his son, who could be criticized for several legitimate reasons, is instead attacked for his skin color.
