Is a safe, free, less violent society likely to keep women away from marriage? If so, then alternative institutions should gradually take over the space. If not, then marriage is likely to remain the most successful institution.
@vertigo_invivo I guess this is true for all the flawed institutions including the caste system. There are no properly structured alternatives. And financially secure individualists aren’t motivated and don’t understand the need for collectivist structures.
@VoiceObc We've evolved around resources and power, because self is primary. That's innate to all creatures I believe. And that idea of self expanded to include others who were perceived as similar - hence creation of groups. So the 'mean' of a group decides what's normal/usual, tail ends being treated as perturbations to be kept under control.
@VoiceObc I've no clarity on this, but just thinking aloud - I think monogamous marriages have ensured a partner for all. May be prior to that set up, there might have been a risk of a large number being left out? I don't know...
Also a 2 body problem is far easier to deal with than a multiple one. So any alternative should be simpler to resolve for the 'mean' to accept it.
