@bobonbooks it seems pretty obvious that if you cannot read you won't be able to function in any of your classes, and you will not be able to fully participate in life's activities.
The problem is that when students are in high school, it's almost too late to catch up. These students would need to receive specialized remedial intervention to address their needs.
Many high school students can't read. Is the solution teaching reading in every class? - Los Angeles Times https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-08-14/how-teaching-reading-in-every-high-school-class-can-improve-literacy
Many high school students can't read. Is the solution teaching reading in every class?

Some states and high schools, including one in San Diego, are experimenting with ways to integrate literacy instruction across all classes.

@alan it is mystifying that people do not believe what is written in a 900+ page book as the agenda of the next republican administration.
Believe what they say and watch what they do. Republicans want America to become like Russia.

From Dan Rather:
It is difficult to convince voters that the projectโ€™s policy recommendations are real because they are so radical. Anat Shenker-Osorio, a political strategist, spoke about the challenges of discussing Project 2025 with focus groups.

โ€œWhen we actually cut and paste verbatim from the Heritage document, people are like, thatโ€™s a bunch of bull****. Like, why did you make that up? And what is wrong with you? And why are you lying to us?โ€ she said.

@readermom these are millionaires and billionaires who don't rely on SS in retirement. The vast majority of people only have SS income to live on. GOP don't care about people. They only care for their bottomline.

THEY PUT IT IN WRITING.

Project 2025 aims to raise the retirement age from 67 to 69. This would:

- cut benefits by $4,000-$8,000 after one year on SS.
- cut benefits by $46,000-$100,000 (for median-wage earners) after 10 years on SS

That's a CUT. #TrumpWillCutSocialSecurity

We ordered some cat toys from #Amazon that have catnip in them. They arrived today, and I brought the package in from the porch, along with a couple of other packages, and put them on the living room couch. When we finished dinner and went to the living room, we discovered that Angel had ripped open the padded envelope with the cat toys and was already playing with one of them. Catnip must be something.
