Woohoo! Reading the new Dutch government’s coalition agreement, I’m excited to see stronger focus on #prevention, #mental health, and a solid #social foundation for young people: https://www.kabinetsformatie2025.nl/documenten/2026/01/30/aan-de-slag---coalitieakkoord-2026-2030

It connects directly to my research on daily resilience: how well you bounce back from everyday stress is linked to how you feel that day, the next day, and even to fewer depressive symptoms and better functioning months (!) later.

So… let’s get to work on resilience. Sounds like a plan to me 😊

Super nice to give a talk at Augeo about youth resilience as not only “coping with adversity,” but also anticipation and savoring of positive events ✨

Does anyone know of literature on any differences in anticipation or savoring of positive events in adult life after childhood trauma (eg maltreatment or loss of a loved one)?

And what’s a good name for the initial uplift + “recovery” after positive events? Prosilience? (Open for better suggestions 😆) #resilience #youthmentalhealth

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of debating Open Science with Mira Buist-Zhuk and Danila Otavin - exploring the provocative question of whether radical openness could one day make universities obsolete.

Many thanks to @SGGroningen, host Valeria Cernei, our “opposition” @doughnutspasian, @MobileMaggie, and Carlijn Kammenga, and everyone who joined us.And of course to Mira and Danila - a joy to do this together!

This is how I wanna go down. #caturday

I am incredibly grateful for the support from NWO, which helps me to address the urgent matter of mental health problems and work towards making a meaningful impact in the lives of young individuals.

My gratitude also goes out to those who helped me write this proposal and provided very useful feedback, among who @doctinak, @mariekehaan, Laura Baams, Michiel de Ree, Rozemarijn van der Ploeg, and Mariëlle Osinga - thank you so much; could not have done it without you! ✨

This innovative approach has the potential to revolutionize our knowledge. By examining visual cues in photos, we can learn more about the factors that influence young individuals' mental well-being and use that knowledge to develop targeted interventions and support systems.
💡 Our objective is to explore the potential of inferring risk/protective factors for mental health by analyzing photos shared on BeReal. To achieve this, we will employ machine learning algorithms and validate their effectiveness against Experience Sampling data.
