Grading can be such a joy sometimes, especially end of semester reflections.
For final project (which involves pitching a monument to a group we covered in the semester), a student proposed a 9/11 monument that focuses on the treatment of American Muslims in the aftermath. Just such a thoughtful approach to the project and reflection. on the creation of memory and narratives.
Last night was one of those "wake up and I'm still thinking about the meal" dinners. The pizza with ricotta, spinach, toasted pistachios, and chili oil drizzled on top was just out of this world good. And some eggplant fritti with citrus supremes and pickled onion. My goodness.
History Capstone students are working with Architecture students to design a timeline and exhibit on the Scranton Iron Furnaces and I’m officially getting excited as they start to storyboard.
Stumbled upon this newspaper from 1987 in Westchester County and holy shit this headline and article.
@ccjones13 and I are looking to pull together a panel discussion for OAH 2024 focusing on using family history in the classroom. We would be particularly interested in connecting with women and scholars of color for the panel. Give a shout if interested in joining up!
Somehow skipped on the #introduction part! I teach US History and study 19th and early 20th century US (and sometimes early Americas), with a focus on food history, social reform movements, and cultural history. Baseball and cat enthusiast, and home cook! Looking forward to growing the #histodons community here!
