I like to learn something new every day.
Some think the worldās population could fit in Texas, with 330 square feet per person.
You know when an asshole says, "The world is a cruel place." or "Life is cruel." to excuse shitty behavior?
Life isn't cruel. The universe isn't cruel. People are. Specifically, people like that. Don't let them taint it. The universe may not care, but that doesn't make it cruel.
REMINDER now that Dilbert Stark has left the Oval Office: It was never DOGE's task to slash costs; it was their task to slash government's ability to deliver services and run programs. In the wake of which, those that were necessary can be farmed out to private sector cronies, and those that weren't can be rendered down for billionaire tax cuts.
It was Thatcher in 1979/80 on fast-forward. Disaster capitalism.
#onpremisesinfrastructure is vastly underrated. What are you going to do when #GoogleWorkspace or #Microsoft365 shut your account down because their AI decides to and you have no recourse. You canāt sue them because youāve agreed to their terms of service. Oops? š¤·āāļø
Also, what many donāt know is even if data is stored in the cloud, the customer is still responsible for backing up and archiving their data. The cloud company does some rudimentary disaster recovery but has specific indemnification against data loss. Marketing conveniently glosses over this. š
The #cloud cannot be trusted for small businesses. #Selfhosting is the way to go. Itās not hard at all and I am in the midst of writing a book for people with a minimal technical background to get started as easily as possible. Or even for them to have a technical friend help them out.
Get email saying my credit card statement is available. I decide I should look at this right away before I forget.
Open app. Get notice biometrics has changed (?) and I need to enter password.
Finally remember password. Get asked if I want to enable biometrics. Say yes.
Select relevant credit card.
UI looks like it is trying to load. Vague error comes up saying something has gone wrong and to try again.
I close and reopen app. It asks for password. Re enter password (no biometric scan or prompt to be seen). Select credit card again.
UI struggles to load, vague error message reappears.
Suddenly feel nostalgic for paper transaction books and a physical bank location.
