Fashion, Bad Artist, or Short?

Do they look like they are shorter than average?
It could be at least 3 things:
- Their too-long suit coats were the fashion at the time
- The artist who penciled over the enlargement was terrible at body proportions
- They were possibly short

Since the sons (assumed) are in color, that was probably done at a later date.

One day in 100+ years, those pictures may end up at a thrift store.
I wish I knew the story of this crayon portrait purchased from Goodwill in Appleton, WI.
I have questions about those sad faces.
That must be intentional.
