We can see that Peak Coal in China happened in 2007, when it was 80% of the energy mix. Since then it has dropped by 27% market share (in a growing market!) to 58%.

If we looked at investments, it's worse. The money flows to renewables almost completely. And in terms of prices it's even worse – renewables are more than 50% cheaper than fossil energy.

We can expect that the market share of fossil energies will be dropping in the future even faster: China will reach the end of its S-curve, and demand will stagnate. Renewables will then push out fossil energy sources much more aggressively. Also, China will turn even more to export of Renewable Energy technology.

Electricity, Coal and Solar in China

China is, other than EU states, a country with a quickly rising energy demand. In OWID it looks like this:

"OMG! So much coal! China dooms us all!"

Well, no. We are looking at growth in a growing market, and that is complicated. Let's switch to percentages...

Once again, Brendan Loper and The New Yorker cartoons nail it. Is this a chance for the global community to make real progress on international agreements that the US has long sabotaged?

I might not be a USian, but I think I will, in the future refer to Trump as The King In Orange.

Because he has some worrying parallels to The King In Yellow.

1. Just listening to news about him causes psychic damage.
2. Too much exposure to him can lead to obsessions with him, in both ways.
3. He has a malevolent cult that follow him and tries to destroy everything they touch.
4. He tries to destroy everything he touches.

There might be more parallels, but those are just from the top of my head.

Please stop promoting libertarianism.

Yes it solved those problems.

But it will create even worse ones.
