Big Journalism's abject capitulation to Musk, despite his loathing of their work and promotion of democracy's enemies, will not change unless he makes Twitter unusable.

Given the latest fail, perhaps practicality will prevail over honor.

But this would require work on the part of journalists and their employers. They may consider that to be an insurmountable barrier.

Oh, this seems pretty cool. Now that Elon has cracked down on the API and made tools like debirdify not work, @[email protected] has created Whosum, a browser extension to help make your social graph more portable. It currently "records" your Twitter connections and then highlights those on Mastodon all in your browser (not on some server somewhere). https://whosum.com/

Musk and Murdoch together at the football game is a gathering of today's most powerful anti-democracy media barons. And it's a reminder that journalists who would never consider working for Murdoch's Fox "News" -- at least he pays for his content -- are still toiling for free to support Musk's rancid trollsite.

The situation in Florida - the authoritarian takeover of education, the escalating reactionary campaign to stifle, censor, and ban any dissent from the white nationalist worldview - is a proper democratic emergency.

So far, the response has been utterly inadequate.

Reminder that journalists who would never consider working for the Murdoch family's Fox "News" -- because they have too much integrity to participate in its relentless poisoning of our civic life -- continue to pour their work into Elon Musk's Twitter.

Mediaite right wing writer Isaac Schorr misread the Twitter account @joinmastodon as "John Mastodon," and referred to him as the founder of the platform in his article https://www.mediaite.com/opinion/hypocrisy-and-fear-all-the-way-down-at-twitter/ #tech #twitter #twittermigration #twitterexodus #news #media
Hypocrisy and Fear All the Way Down at Twitter

After you’ve drawn such a strong distinction on speech and human freedom, you can’t make any mistake about the side on which you belong.
