I mistakenly put the fisheye camera in its mount 90º off, so up and down in the image is east-west. I’ll fix it eventually, but it does have the kind of cool effect that the Keogram, which is a vertical slice through the center of each image throughout the night, kind of “follows” the moon as it moves across the sky. Gives it a lighthouse effect. And that’s the most positive thing I will ever say about the moon, which specializes in messing up my photos. Searchlight sunset in the second image! These four photos taken a minute apart show the sun setting tonight behind the southern slope of @MtDavidson_SF . In the upper-right shot, the sun shines back through a stand of trees, like an orange searchlight. Live shots from this camera at https://paulclanon.com/cloud_cam

@cnes 👆 The French space agency CNES has the official account @cnes Here on Mastodon. Not Blueskly, Threads, or elsewhere.

Can we help them grow and reach for the stars?

The sun from earlier this evening, Aug 16.

Got lucky and had just enough of a break in the clouds to get a nice pic.

Still tracking the future site of recurrent nova T Coronae Borealis, a binary system that's not visible without a telescope now, but one of the two stars is expected to go nova soon (the last time was in 1946; before that, 1866) and when that happens it'll be as bright as the brightest stars in this shot. This is a 45-second exposure, during which a Delta flight from Seattle to San Jose was in its descent over San Francisco. The blueish tint throughout is from moonlight. According to https://transit-finder.com/ I should have had a grazing transit of the ISS across the sun this morning, so I got up and set my SeeStar to have a peek. No such luck. Not sure what went wrong, but I processed the frames using AutoStakkert to at least get a (somewhat fuzzy, focus was off?) view of the sun. The range to the ISS was quite large, perhaps not enough resolving power? Or just not accurate location? Another will happen this afternoon, I'll try again. #astrophotography

First Perseid meteor from last night with my all-sky camera. If you're not familiar with the concept, this is a 180-degree fisheye lens pointing straight up, so every edge of the circle is horizon. There are others with Perseids, but this one is especially bright.
