I know it’s a small thing amongst (waves hands) but it’s one off those things that makes me irrationally livid: My company HR now requires I log in with Microsoft Edge. Didn’t we settle all this IE shit a couple of decades ago?
I have no doubt this is because the anti-monopolist action of the US government is defunct under (waves hands).
Once the lab is emptied of trainees, if a PI does somehow land a grant, they will have to rebuild the lab's expertise from scratch.
Not so easy without teaching release or the excitement of being a freshly hired PI. I've built a lab twice now. It was much easier to build the lab when I was a freshly hired PI with big ideas and a career ahead of me. It was much harder a few years later.

Shame on you, TULANE UNIVERSITY.
Students peacefully protest the illegal imprisonment of Mahmoud Khalil, a fact that is backed up by the U.S. Supreme Court. But Tulane has declared this activity misconduct and disruptive under their code of conduct. We all know they are only doing this to appease the Convicted-Felon-in-Chief. Tulane is complying in advance, and shitting on their own students to do so.

So much of the destruction in the USA is away from the spotlight at grass roots level. But the foundations of a modern society are being smashed. The National Science Foundation has just stopped awarding new grants and funding existing ones. That effectively means that work on all existing NSF grants has to stop immediately. Universities are telling researchers to stop spending on those grants right away. That's jobs and progress and opportunity just being eradicated.
