Ryan Schultz#JohnMastodon is proof that things *CAN* go viral here on Mastodon, but the key is that *YOU* are the algorithm. The reason that the John Mastodon meme showed up on other people's timelines is because so many users boosted the posts.
The lesson here is: please don't just favourite something if you really enjoyed it; BOOST it so that other people can enjoy it, too! This is the only reason why I bother to create as large a social graph as I can on Mastodon—to act as an amplifier. You can, too!❤️😉

Abandoned AmericaWhy would you ban jet trackers if you weren't becoming more aware of just how despised you are, say from a huge booing crowd? If you weren't afraid that you are not as far above the crowd as you thought? Yes, laugh at the hypocrisy of it all, but in the end it's just telegraphing a growing awareness of his own weakness and his desperation to reassemble the self image he had before buying Twitter: smart, cool, unassailable.
It's not going to work. It will get worse.
The whole reason Musk is banning Mastodon links, jet trackers, and journalists is because he is terrified.
He's afraid of being unable to control public perception. Bc of his ego he needs to be the smartest/most beloved, but instead his image is becoming that of a pariah, a spoiled brat, and a fool. He bought a thing but has no control over it despite every effort to assert it.
People like that are dangerous, esp with power/money. But at the end of the day his actions show raw fear
