If you find Inkskape & Gimp to be too UI heavy for your needs & expertise, a nice alternative is http://getpaint.net/, a free tool that is much more capable than MS Paint, without the steep learning curve of others.
It is Windows only, and is no longer open source, however.
I would recommend you give it a try.

Being able to cut 70% of the selling cost means that it was all profit before that.
