New tech is exciting, but constant upgrading comes with a cost. Replacing devices early increases e-waste, hurts the environment, and squanders valuable materials. The most sustainable device is the one you already own. Repair it, maintain it, and keep it running longer. Your wallet benefits, and so does the planet.

Before you do your Black Friday shopping, watch Buy Now! on @Netflix and learn more about the overconsumption problem.

@KevinCarson1 it’s painful to see how right Pinker’s critics were, how laughably wrong Pinker was, and how he’ll never admit it and will continue to spread rubbish that enables the effective altruism grifters.
@Strandjunker quite right! I’d just point out that strictly speaking among humans euthanasia is an act of empathy, usually carried out with the consent of, and at the behest of, the person being killed, in order to save them from unbearable pain or to help them pass with dignity in the face of terminal illness. That’s not what Kilmeade was suggesting, so the word euthanize lets him off the hook a little bit (if he did not already completely escape accountability).
@virginiaheffernan thanks for the insightful article about Musk, and the depressing direction the LA Times is taking.
Just a minor note that Soon-Shiong’s wealth is 12.5% of Musk’s (not 0.0125%)

I just downloaded a cool icon from flaticon.com for my flying saucer maintenance website. Kids game icons created by Freepik - Flaticon

@pluralistic Interesting to see this version with the Appendix removed: https://snap.stanford.edu/class/cs224w-readings/Brin98Anatomy.pdf. I wonder why 😅

Looks like https://pdf.sciencedirectassets.com also has the "sanitized" version

And of course, the obligatory: "The USAF has been quick to point out that the drones are to remain **firmly under the command of human pilots and commanders**"

It's so, so gut wrenching.
