@billyjoebowers @mekkaokereke @carnage4life "an electric bike is not enough" may be more a matter of ignorance of options. My bike's got no e-assist (yet) but it has a trailer, and the trailer does a lot. I'd like to see someone load that snow blower into a small car.

People are encouraged to think that they can't do stuff like this on a bike.
The trailer is *easy*, two friends of mine have hauled good-sized loads with it w/o practice, it just worked.

@billyjoebowers @mekkaokereke @carnage4life Oh hey, this is me 😁

We got rid of our car a few years ago and got a couple of Tern HSD cargo e-bikes. I use mine for probably 7 out of 10 trips I make around town.

We started leasing a car when it looked like one of us might have an out-of-town commute. But, that changed and now we're looking to go car-less again.

The main things that make me reach for our car is inclement weather and longer highway trips out of town. Would be nice if there was something just-good-enough for those cases.

Like she said in that video, I don't need a TV, mini-fridge, and a sofa in my car 😅

@BenjaminHCCarr and large project consultant Paul Martin wrote this analysis that seems pretty convincing, saying scaling horizontally is very unlikely to be cheaper than scaling vertically: https://spitfireresearch.com/scaling-example-1-small-modular-nuclear-reactors/
Scaling Example #1: Small Modular Nuclear Reactors – Spitfire Research Inc.

@BenjaminHCCarr Doesn't every cost overrun postmortem since the beginning of time conclude that "the design was not mature enough before construction began, design changes were super expensive"?
@BenjaminHCCarr I get that siting at an existing grid connection is a big advantage. What I don't get is why anyone believes SMR would be faster or cheaper than just cranking out more Vogtles. Really??

@aeva floats are ~fine for rendering; you just need to get your scene objects placed in relation to the viewpoint without messing up, so there's your extra add/sub for decent sized worlds. Bare doubles are pretty ok for the solar system but you might have issues with physics on Neptune. Fixed point gets you a few more bits but 32 isn't enough. IMHO stop worrying and make system that works with floats.

I believe I have gotten FIVE spam texts today that look like genuine Harris fundraising appeals, but are fake.

From Friday's Vineyard Gazette: one of Vineyard Wind's turbine blades snapped, dropping fiberglass debris into the water. Debris washed up on the south shore of Nantucket, closing beaches during cleanup. Cause unclear, the plant is shut down and construction halted pending investigation. An NREL expert says "this is an anomaly".

Vineyard Wind Project Shut Down, Blade Falls Off

Federal regulators have shut down Vineyard Wind while they investigate what caused a 107-meter turbine blade to break and spill fiberglass into the ocean.
