On Nov. 17, the Biden administration filed a suggestion of immunity on behalf of Mohammad bin Salman (#MBS) in a suit filed by the fiancée of Jamal #Khashoggi, who was assassinated in 2018. Khashoggi’s fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, brought a case in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 2020, seeking relief under the Torture Victim Protection Act of 1991 and Alien Tort Statute in connection with Khashoggi’s killing.

Saw a certain Elon on the birdsite make a laughing reply to someone making fun of Mastodon on there.

He seems to have since deleted it. Perhaps he remembered "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win" Stage 2 achieved. 😂 #riptwitter #spacekaren

I did a thread on the other site. It starts here:

The gist is the Times story shows us that Alito might be leaky (he denies.) This is bad for SCOTUS ethics/corruption.

But the part of the story that suggests these evangelical dinner mates and prayer partners swayed the justices is simply wrong, and misunderstands how the religious right works, and in particular with legal part of it.

Sarah Posner on Twitter

“So. I know Rob, and he has been a source on a few stories I’ve written. I understand how shocking this particular story — along with a couple of others recently, in which he describes his efforts to shape how SCOTUS justices thought about and wrote decisions. 1/x”

"What I’m finding most satisfying about Mastodon, and I’m seeing a lot of other journalists feel this, is that it actually forces you to ask and confront some of these questions and to make active choices. Even if Mastodon were to remain Twitter’s very tiny stepbrother, I would still like to be part of a Mastodon journalist community because I think we got lazy as a field, and we let Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, and, god help us, Elon Musk decide..."

Mastodon’s Moment – The Markup

A conversation with Adam Davidson

I thought your focus was going to be inflation. So you lied.
Here's a comment for incoming Twitter users: I've found that some are really put off by the way Mastodon requires push and pull to get to information. Rather than Elmo telling you what to read (and steering you to most incendiary content), you have to go look for it and choose to consume it. Most notably, I've come to think of "Content Warnings" as instead subject lines, just like you'd use in an email, so readers can scan whether they want to read further.
Black people have built communities on Twitter that are unlike any other in the technological world. Those communities are not easily replicated elsewhere. An analogy is when people criticized New Orleanians who rebuilt in the city after the devastation of Katrina, even though it was palpably risky to do so. But none of the critics sufficiently explained how those people should transfer their social capital and communities to unfamiliar places that may not even want them. 1/2
Feeling sad as hell about twitter ending or whatever is happening rn. It’s been such an important platform for communication and culture it’s hard to think anything could even begin to replicate its role :( #tech #technology #twittermigrate #twitter #elon
