Scottish SFFH fan and sometimes conrunner. Queer. They/them.

Today, while other stuff was going on, I finished The Devil’s Flute Murders, another excellent Yokomizo Seishi detective novel published in translation by Pushkin Vertigo. I naturally immediately checked if any more were in the pipeline: very pleased to see The Little Sparrow Murders is coming in May!
The joy of the pre-order release you forgot was due. The beautifully packaged new Masters of Cinema blu ray release of Pabst"s Pandora's Box.
Bloody hell. This is the apex of stupidity (unless it's actually all a cunning plan to deliberately destroy Twitter).
Today I ventured out. Hard work at times but worth it. I returned with a little pile of stuff, and the nicest bit was I didn't have to pay for any of it. 🙂

I just accidentally clicked on the Twitter link in a web page and saw the site's “front page” with this image. It's... well, it's not welcoming. Serious dystopian vibes. It looks like the cover of a cheap novel ripping off something like They Live. I hadn't really realised how unwelcoming “X” is either. When it appeared on the screen, before I realised it was Twitter, the big “X” provoked an “Oh, fuck, I don't want to be here!” reaction.

Some impressive branding there.

Today there was a bit of royal flummery in Edinburgh. Not-quite-a-coronation. There weren't the crowds they'd apparently been expecting, to judge by the barriers, but there were some people in a couple of bunches. There's video in which the crowd – “crowd” – can be clearly heard booing and chanting #NotMyKing

It warms the heart, it really does. There's hope for the country yet. #Scotland

This tweet was beautifully put re: the media coverage:

There were good things about Twitter (obviously, that was why it was successful), and one of the main ones was the way you could randomly encounter someone you'd never otherwise come across. I made friends that way, learned some stuff, and generally got a lot out of it. It seems a long time ago now, but there's still occasional flashes of that random benefit, quite often now humour in response to the latest stupidity from the site's owner. This one, I thought, was very nicely done.
To illustrate the more storage bit, on my old phone the SD card was almost full (about 2Gb free) because it had most of my music on it, plus a couple of other things. The #NewPhone can handle a bigger card, so this is the status after all that music, etc., has been transferred on to it.

Good grief, BBC – *Jeremy* Springer?
