A new travel description podcast from JJ Hunt, I’ve just launched a new travel description podcast called Describe Away. I captured description-rich audio of whale watching in Newfoundland, cabin time in Nova Scotia, and sunsets on Vancouver Island, using feedback and tips gleaned from the described walking tours and live events I’ve done within the Blind community. Vivid Language - About Audio Description
Thinking and dreaming hard about my trip to Vienna and Paris in March, to research late 18th century musicians Friederich Dulon and Maria Von Paradis. My colleague will be doing archival and historical research. I want to focus on the music scene today. I go to a lot of live music, and make live music with friends in Toronto. How can I explore the musical life where I’m going? If you have any recommendations or connections to the music community or the Blind community in Vienna or Paris please reach out. We’ll also be in Innsbrook for 1 night, for a Dead South show I’m thrilled to report!
🎧 This month, The Disability Collective is mounting 20 Years Later: The (In)Accessibility of Ontario, a photography exhibition showcasing the shortcomings of the AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act). When Describer/Consultant duo JJ Hunt and Christine Malec were brought on board to write the visual descriptions, they proposed an experiment: instead of JJ writing the descriptions and Christine consulting, as usual, what if Christine (who
is Blind) wrote the descriptions using AI to gather visual information, and JJ (who is sighted) consulted to ensure accuracy.
In this episode, JJ and Christine discuss the challenges, advantages, and results of this unique, disability-led approach. This podcast page also has a link to the exhibit including text and audio of the image descriptions.
