My advice to anyone breaking into #infosec or #tech or #IT or really any field is to trust your process and wait to see how it will turn out.

Take all of this with a grain of salt as I’m still very much in the early days of my own journey, but I had a thought last night that has me thinking more positively this morning.

I like to draw. I’m not the best, I don’t seek to publish any of my work or anything, but I enjoy the entire process. When I’m drawing something, the first thing I do is block out simple shapes; just squares and circles and triangles to get size and proportions right. Then I give a little more shape to the pieces before adding more and more detail as I go along.

In those early stages, even I begin to second guess myself as to how it will turn out. How can this sloppy pile of shapes become something intricate and detailed and nice to look at? Are the hands too small? Did I leave enough room to add this? But over time you see it come together.

I find myself doing the same with breaking into security. How will I ever understand this concept or that? How will I ever get to a place where I’m knowledgeable enough to speak on this topic? How will I ever learn to exit Vim? But over time, with work and practice, it comes together.

This post is long but whenever you feel doubt or you feel discouraged, just trust the process and keep pushing it forward. You’ll get there.

Bonus: Halloween piece from a couple of weeks ago my son and I did.
