Student of Infosec // Current IT Tech // Silly goose

As someone trying to break into #infosec in terms of the resume, how can you convey skill level?

For instance, I know some beginner-level Linux, some less than hands-on experience with MySQL, foundational level knowledge in tools and certain frameworks.

I want to avoid listing these things generally and give the impression I’m at a higher level than I am.

I’m going to be vulnerable for a moment.

I’m going through a separation. My divorce will be final in June.

I still have ~1 year left in my degree and the urgency to move forward in my career and in earnings has exponentially increased.

My brain is a cluttered mess right now and I need to focus now more than ever.

I need a mentor. I need someone to help me set a course and stick to it.

I don’t need it to be anything super rigid or involved, just someone who can help me realize/plan for my goals and be available for the occasional question or query.

If you think you can help, please reach out. I will be in your debt.

How often do internships in #infosec turn into jobs?

I’m thinking I have a better chance at landing an internship before my move in June but, being a little financially tipsy, I worry about coming to the end of an internship and not having an income.

New laptop came in. Thinking of going and grabbing a 1TB SSD and loading that with #Kali so I have multiple boot options.

Thoughts? Opinions? Better way to do it?

Anyone have any leads on true entry-level #security jobs that are either remote or based in/around New Orleans?

Urgent need in the next few months. Any help is extremely appreciated.

What’s the advantage/difference of #CCNA vs Network+?

What’s the overlap? What’s unique?

I have Network+ but am wondering if the CCNA is worth it as well? Or at least learning the material?

So I’ve got right around a year left until I finish my degree with #WGU

I have ITIL, A+, Net+, Sec+, Project+, and will gain a few more certs as a part of my degree, including Pentest+.

I’ve got nearly a year of experience under my belt as a computer repair tech.

Outside of school, I plan to focus my studies on Networking, Linux, and Python.

Does this seem like a good direction for someone wanting to get into #Pentesting?

How does one go about finding a mentor?

I have always had difficulty forming an effective, well-organized plan and not deviating from it regarding things I’m trying to learn.

With all the craziness in my life now, I need someone to help me come up with a plan of action that helps me reach my goals, but I’m not sure where to start. I’m not sure of the acceptable procedure.
