Lots of my historically-minded friends are getting quite excited about Ridley Scott's
#Napoleon. The trailer features the Battle of the Pyramids (pic below) so I don't expect a lot of historical accuracy. Why not? Check out my blog post on the real battle.

I saw this on Facebook and posted it on Twitter, where it attracted much more interest than most of my posts. I thought I'd give Mastodon followers a chance to enjoy it too.
A friend sent me this picture, 'Jazz Tango' by Georgy Kurasov.
I like it so much, I'd like to share it. Not that I've ever danced like this. In fact, I doubt it's physically possible.
The latest James Burke book, 'Burke and the Lines of Torres Vedras' publishes on Friday. It's on pre-order now for £3.99 at mybook.to/TorresVedras.
It's set during the Peninsular War, which I know is a popular subject for historical fiction. There are no battles but there is a lot about the line of forts that Wellington built to deter the French, the remain of which you can still see today. And there's a thrilling spy story.
I hope some of you might be interested in it.
Celebrated Valentine's Day with a long overdue visit to the cabinet war rooms. What do you mean: that's not very romantic?
It's a fascinating place and we both loved it. This is the actual cabinet room.
