Spent most of my life working in marketing/social research. Gave it up to have time to write and dance tango.

Will AI soon surpass the human brain? If you ask employees at OpenAI, Google DeepMind and other large tech companies, it is inevitable. However, researchers @Iris and @olivia at Radboud University and others show new proof that those claims are overblown and unlikely to ever come to fruition. Their findings are published in Computational Brain & Behavior today.

Who was Rodney? – Guest article by Dr Paul Main

I am delighted to welcome back to All Things Georgian, Dr Paul Main, a retired GP with  particular interests in his local history, the history of Medicine and of course the Georgians, who previously told us more about Hotwell, Bristol.  Today's article ventures into the realms of naval history and a connection to Bristol. With that, I'll hand you over to Paul to explain more. Walking northwards up the west side of Clifton…

Guest post by Sam Mee – Georgian rings explained

I am delighted to welcome Sam Mee, director of  Antique Ring Boutique, to All Things Georgian. Sam is going to explain more about rings from the Georgian era. Rings from the Georgian era remain popular because of their exquisite details and fascinating choice of gemstones. Georgian jewellery is so far removed from anything you see today - it’s romantic and eccentric.

Last month was Open House in London and we took the chance to see some livery halls. This week's blog has a bit of history and some photos.

My Galbraith & Pole series is Urban Fantasy but with its tongue very firmly in its cheek. The third of the adventures of the vampire detective comes out in a fortnight. The first, 'Something Wicked' is on offer at 99p.

‘Something Wicked’ on offer

Monsters in the Mist is the third of my books featuring Galbraith & Pole. It can be read as a stand-alone book, but it builds on the world established in the first two books. It certainly helps to have read the first in the series, Something Wicked. Something Wicked explains how the vampire, Pole, came to be working with the Metropolitan Police, where he met Chief Inspector Galbraith and they worked together on their first murder investigation. Pole is not your conventional vampire. He lives in an elegant apartment in Chelsea were he enjoys cooking (often with garlic) and fine whisky. But he does avoid daylight and feeds on blood. For the next five days, Something Wicked will be on offer for just 99p/cents. It’s quite a short book, so it gives you time to read it ahead of the publication of Monsters in the Mist on 27 October. If you’re not sure about spending 99p, you can get an idea of the story because the opening is available free, read by me here: https://tomwilliamsauthor.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Something-Wicked-1-2.mp4 Amazon reviews If you enjoy light, amusing and elegant humour and would relish the thrills and chills of the supernatural kind, the Something Wicked is definitely for you. It has everything a good book needs: an engaging plot full of surprises, a critical portrayal of contemporary society, complex characters you identify with, and, most importantly: vampires! A really great read! Who knew a story about vampires, detectives and tango could be so entertaining?!

'Monsters in the Mist', the third Galbraith & Pole book, is now available to pre-order. If you've never heard of Galbraith and Pole, you're missing out. Check my blog post at https://tomwilliamsauthor.co.uk/monsters-in-the-mist/

Lots of my historically-minded friends are getting quite excited about Ridley Scott's #Napoleon. The trailer features the Battle of the Pyramids (pic below) so I don't expect a lot of historical accuracy. Why not? Check out my blog post on the real battle. https://tomwilliamsauthor.co.uk/the-battle-of-the-pyramids/

I saw this on Facebook and posted it on Twitter, where it attracted much more interest than most of my posts. I thought I'd give Mastodon followers a chance to enjoy it too.
A friend sent me this picture, 'Jazz Tango' by Georgy Kurasov.
I like it so much, I'd like to share it. Not that I've ever danced like this. In fact, I doubt it's physically possible.
