Was @justvanrossum robbed by anti pirate pirates?
Pointed pen, but with a sowing machine. Sort of.
The more I try to use variable fonts in apps, the more frustrated I am by the utterly brain-dead design decisions.
Worst common problem is putting axes on a temporary-activation pop-up. Adobe, Affinity 😞
LOOK, we need to see them on an ONGOING basis, see the axis settings of arbitrary text, AND apply them easily. Having something like the Color Picker and Swatches panels, but for variable font axis settings, that would be a good approach. (And no, Char/Para Styles ALONE are not the answer.)
Looking at the lovely new Otto from Dinamo, and a common pet peeve strikes me:
It's a text face but you don't see it in text sizes.
I can fiddle with the page to see it in text size, but I'd rather not have to do that. I'd rather see the idealized text use as defined by the foundry.
And I'm not calling out Dinamo in particular, this is the standard. (mostly mention them by name to plug Otto). It's rare to see a text face in paragraphs on a page. And that's weird.
Why is that?
I see everything everyone posts on typo.social. Not only the people I follow.
I usually browse the typo.social server live feed, which shows you the total output of the server.
I rarely check my home feed with the people I follow, since it's a subset of the total here, and the total here is pretty great.
