I know nobody wants to hear from the New York Times, but this is pretty telling if you ask me.

I’ve been in severe periods of economic anxiety. Sticking it to my neighbors was never part of my plan to exit out of it.

I live in these communities. Right wing disinformation is the most prevalent thing. That’s where this comes from. They sow hate.
