Writer, reader, SF fan, teacher librarian. I live in Melbourne, with a balcony garden and thousands of books!
Over half a million people took to the streets across Germany in nationwide protests against the far-right. In Neu-Isenburg—a city of just 40,000—an incredible 9,000 demonstrators turned out to oppose a local AfD event, showing that resistance is everywhere!

If you'd like to comment on the City of Melbourne's plans for Royal Park, you can complete the survey at this link. For context - there have been concerns expressed by members of the public that the council intends to chip away more of the natural space to create sporting grounds etc.

Royal Park Master Plan

We are refreshing the Royal Park Master Plan. Have your say and help us create a vision and long-term plan for Royal Park.

Currently reading Travellers in the Third Reich, a book which documents everyday people's reactions to travelling within the Weimar Republic then Nazi Germany before World War II.

As you'd expect, it gets creepier and creepier as you go - as so many people don’t see what's going on underneath the surface vision of a state busily modernising. The section about the 1936 Olympics is particularly intriguing for that reason. Some people are awake though, and realise the horrors lying behind the curtain.

It's an intriguing read and often seems very familiar and timely... for, you know, reasons.

Have discovered by chance that Xwitter's AI service Grok is misinforming voters about Senate voting, giving a description of the above-the-line system that matches the Group Ticket Voting system abolished in 2016. I have reported it to the AEC who are on the case.

So, I updated my writer profile and blog site today with posts from Tall And True and then realised I need to refresh the bio on the home page with my latest book! 🤦‍♂️#writer #writing #blogging #podcasting

Hey #Melbourne peeps? I've got a co-worker who's about to no longer be a co-worker because he's relocating from Perth to Melbourne, and while he's a network engineer, our core infrastructure has to stay in Perth.

However, he's been great to work with over the last couple of years, and I'd love to see him land on his feet when he gets here.

Is anyone in Melbourne looking for a network engineer with good references, and some handy secondary experience (some PM, cloud, coding/devops)?

Our loss would be your gain.

(Please DM me!)

ICE agents come to the house of an immigrant activist, he tells them he will come out of the house to them if they have a judicial warrant, as people are told to do now.

They bring a dozen more agents, a Bearcat armored vehicle, battering ram and stun grenades, and break in.

Family member condemns use of armored vehicle, stun grenades in Phoenix ICE arrest

The arrest took place amid Trump's immigration crackdown. An armored vehicle with battering ram and dozens of ICE agents were present to arrest a man.

Pilgrims with smartphones, Notre Dame, Paris

This lady kindly looked up into the light at exactly the right moment, and the whole scene struck me as a parody of a biblical scene as painted in oil by an old master.

I visited the recently reopened Notre Dame and was blown away by the numbers of people snapping away on their smartphones. We were speculating about how many 100s of 1000s of photos of the cathedral must be taken (and uploaded to a cloud somewhere) every single day. And, of course, I made my contribution with my camera too!

Rogue states aren't new. There are many examples of bandit regimes, trampling the rule of law, attacking other nations, abusing human rights & behaving aggressively.

USA is setting new standards in aggression, law breaking & stupidity.

Take a bow America, the world's first & leading moron state, led by a moron, elected by morons, implementing moronic policies.

Jesus: impossible to kill, reproduced asexually. Jesus is canonically a fungus. Clearly the part the Romans crucified was a fruiting body of some kind, leaving the bulk of the organism below ground, safe and secure. And every Easter, we find Jesus' multi-colored spores hidden in dark places. The rabbits tried to warn us. But now it's too late. He's metastasized across the whole planet. Soon enough, he will come again, and when he does, no cross in the world will be big enough to keep him at bay.
