@rbreich Amazon is fast too powerful and a dangerous monopoly in so many areas. They should be broken up into multiple companies; cloud computing, divest Whole Foods, divest delivery services, web site, and legislation to protect the small businesses that use their market place and then are crushed by Amazon if they become successful by creating their own branded products and modifying what consumers see when searches are performed.
@rbreich as long as people throw their money at random people that create new crypto currencies out of thin air, the Ponzi scheme will continue. I don’t want my tax dollars being spent on regulating it. Or bailing out the crypto industry and those that gamble with it. That would be just what was done in 2008. If you gamble to make huge profits, you should be on your own when you lose.
@rbreich I just eat, talk with family and friends, and watch football. Why worry? Just smile and wave 🐧
@rbreich I just refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent
@rbreich I usually agree with most everything that you put online, but not this one. People have always been able to break what they own, and that seems like a pretty basic right. Crypto is just a make believe item that people use to con other people out of their money. There should not be regulation of it since that would lend it legitimacy and would end up with poor Americans bailing out crypto gamblers. Re: Twitter- so what if Musk loses billions? Open source/no ads/corp spying
@rbreich I loathe Amazon for what they do to their workers. They are one of the most powerful companies in the United States and a monopoly. They have the deep pockets to get into any industry and crush everyone else by taking losses for years. All that said, everyone that I know and my family use Amazon all of time; they have good prices, deliver promptly, communicate quickly, return or exchange any time there is an issue, and their website is superior to their competitors.
@rbreich I think people on social security (and SSDI) pay more as a percentage than the billionaires that own the media, technology/car companies, social media, advertising, cloud computing, online shopping, space travel, etc.
@rbreich unless you are wealthy or the Republican politicians taking in huge campaign donations and other “perks”
@rbreich how did the wrath of the average worker and the rich progress during the Reagan years? I would have imagined that the disparity started to grow rapidly then with the trickle down economics, deficit spending, union breaking, massive tax cuts for the rich, etc. I am just curious why those years were not part of the statistics that you referenced. Thanks
@ukrdef people in the west were apathetic about the forever wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that killed huge numbers of civilians and children, and destroyed vast amounts of civilian infrastructure as well. After a few years, the wars were all but forgotten in the minds of most civilians; oblivious to the suffering of they soldiers and the countries that we should have never invaded. In the end all that was accomplished was death and destruction. A draft would have ended the apathy
