Ask me food safety and food science questions.

What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

The goal this year (2026) is to lurk less and post and comment more.

Now, picture the same people in restaurants preparing your food. It’s exactly the same thing 💀
Ah yeah, well, it was about 8 months ago when she said it to me, and somehow she’s gotten away with it because my department knows what it’s doing at all times. She’s being investigated and has decided this is the time to retire. Good riddance, absolute piece of shite.
That’s flat out nepotism, and an impending disaster. Good call on getting out sooner rather than later. The pay 100% was not worth the risk.

That’s a great question and there are so many good answers in this thread.

Don’t expect your superiors to ever back you up. I got burned so many times. I knew I was right, but they didn’t have a backbone and only thought about the budget, their reputation, and the work they’d have to put in for damage control. I wanted to shut restaurants for their filthiness, but “Oh noes, what will the community think”. Well, if someone dies, then it’s on your head. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.

Even if a conversation or direction was made verbally, always follow up with an email to say “Just to confirm our conversation today, you have directed me to…” Even if it’s about holidays. My old boss was such a prick. Him and all upper management are the reason I am suspicious of everyone and everything.

99% of people don’t wash their hands properly.

My manager has been the manager of my department for over 7 years and admitted to my face that she has no idea what we do. 💀… And then did not make any effort in the last 8 months to learn what I do.

Seeing people put their rubbish and recycling in the right bins, or parents telling/praising their young ones for putting their stuff in the correct bins.

Getting the fuel pump right on the number I wanted to the cent.

Bee bums and their big pollen pants.

Making eye contact with dogs and they start wagging their tail.

“She’s really shy around strangers,” and then the cat comes up to give my hand a lick and a head butt.

The perfect marshmallow stick.

Finding shelter steps before the start of a downpour.

Pssssht. Crack. Sip. Ahhhhh… (The sound of opening a can.)

This. Even in my psychology of genocide course in uni, a lot of it was focused on Hitler being the worst, and not much about Stalin.

Sort of related sort of not, I learned in the last few years how awful the British were, too. Different levels of awful, but I’m thinking because Canada is a commonwealth country and was pretty much run by the Brits back in the day, the Brits excluded from our education the bad things they did, ie to native Americans/First Nations people, Africa, etc. I didn’t learn about any of that… So I think what they wanted people to learn and what they wanted people to forget shaped what was taught in Canadian schools.

So, like many others, I was awed and excited by the royals. Now that I know what they’ve been trying to hide, meh.

I love seeing all of the food photos. It’d be fun if we could all get together and do a pot luck and share a bit of everything.

Also, I’ve been craving pizza for weeks. I am definitely doing one next week. Your pizzas look amazing.

English and swearing.

Used to be fluent in French, but nobody to talk to to practice so I’ve lost a lot of it. Basic Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, German. Learning Gaeilge.

They’re amazing. They only have one album out at the moment, but I am so keen for their next.

If you like them, then Kingfishr might be another one to look in to. Also saw them in concert last week. They are less refined, but I put it down to them being so young and more rock.

Have a listen to Killeagh.
