I’m hoping to be out of the country or dead by then

In my mind, the current timeline always starts with 2013 and the death of Aaron Swartz. You could argue it was his prosecution that started it, but his death was the moment it began to become clear. Maybe he saw where we were heading. He was being over-prosecuted. Almost everyone who wasn’t part of the establishment came to that conclusion.

He represented everything that the new digital age could be: self-educated, a lover of learning, a humanist, an activist. A common man fighting for the common people. Everything he did was to spread information and protect our ability to learn, grow, and fight against injustice.

Maybe he had a Howard Beale moment with someone when his plea deal was rejected. Maybe he saw where we were heading and knew that he would never be able to fight it again. They had done everything to make an example of him…to make it impossible for him to enact change. All he really did was find ways to use the system to share information and help people.

I know, this was about PC gaming, but everything in this current dystopia ties back to this loss for me.

I suspect part of the lack of outrage is the fact that you don’t have to change your inputs much these days. If you only stream content from a gaming console with apps then you’re never changing the channel or the inputs. and if you ARE changing the channel, they could easily seem like just regular TV ads.

I don’t think the average 20 something or 30 something is channel surfing like they used to in the old days either way. If you’re changing a channel you likely know what you want to watch and what channel it’s on. So, each change of the channel is one or two ads every hour or so. because even with cable you have the cable based TV guide interface.

I took the money I was going to spend on a TV and bought a 50 inch on facebook market place. Then, I got a last-gen gaming PC. Is it tedious? yes, but I can play video games and watch whatever I want without getting spied on so its a fucking win. *changing the inputs and channels on your own device?" fuck you. I hope this tv lasts the next two decades.
how are they going to do that when they’re logging into a vm in a few years instead of owning a computer and their phone is fucking fort knox by google and apple?
For better or worse also this: gate keeping children’s online spaces. We know the better, but I suspect the worse is political indoctrination, censorship of queer kids, and whitewashing of history.

By the time people are aware of how these changes effect their life it will be too late. These are back end changes that most of the time, won’t cause even a small level of inconvenience.

We are cooked. Just cooked. By the time enough people will have the drive to protest they won’t be able to.

He’s a real-estate guy, even if a bad one, the real-estate industry had been pissed at Cuba for a long time because when they went communist.

He likely sees this as a chance to grab that beach front vacation property back. Not his only reason for doing this. Epstein. But this Cuba talk is preamble to a land grab.

Curious why people are being pissy and down voting. A comment could correct me if I’m wrong.
Man, Factually called it dead on.
