I'm legit confused about this. A whole bunch of artists on Instagram are posting about how they're moving to Cara because of Meta updating the site to use public posts for AI training, but then they just leave their entire galleries up??? and say "eh I'll keep Instagram too tho". Like, is the AI thing something to be concerned about or isn't it? I don't know what I should do with my Instagram accounts and this wacky behavior isn't helping me decide xD

God, I've spent so much time being petrified by what people may think of me, but stepping back from social media has made me realize how little that matters. If I don't need to read the comments of strangers, then I don't need to fear what they will contain. I don't need to cultivate or brace myself for an environment I won't be living in.

I'm still always going to try to make myself understood, but I'm not going to be ashamed of myself anymore. And I'm not going to preemptively defend myself against accusations that haven't even happened yet.

I've replaced all that time spent in my notifications with time drawing or writing or editing or coding, or just napping, and it feels much safer and more productive.

I'm not fully healed yet. I'm kind of avoiding, rather than confronting, my fears. But this still feels nicer, and I really think that this change in perspective will weaken the hold that my anxiety has on me, because it will reinforce the truth that mean comments online can't hurt me unless I let them. It will help me keep my bad thoughts reduced to mere bugs.

There seems to be two kinds of personal Carrds:

It's easier for me to make fun of the byf/dni thing now that I've realized what an utter waste of time it was for me to do that. I doubt anyone read my huge metric ton of disclaimers unless they were already super interested in me, and if anyone I was trying to explain myself to had read it, there's no way in hell they would have learned anything or changed their initial impression of me.

The only reason I even caved and started writing all that shit to begin with was because I noticed how much worse people would get harassed online if they were outed as a "proshipper" instead of just having that all over their profile to begin with, so I guess I thought I was putting up a safety net. Like when me n my brother were kids and he knew I was about to tell on him, so he would blurt out the truth first to lessen the blow.

I still catch myself sometimes, starting to explain and rant to any antis reading, instead of the people I can affect, and who I should be focusing on instead: the people I can help. Gonna take me a long time to dissolve that burning wish to change the minds of persecutors. ><

But yeah, fuck the dni thing. It's so stupid, and sometimes when I'm bored, one of my favorite things to scroll is screenshots of strangers' AWFUL and contradictory dni standards. They're almost always antis, but that's not surprising.
