oday's culinary experiment was Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes?). Although I have been married to a German for about 35 years, she does not cook German very often and her mother does not like making them so I have never tasted one. Apparently my recipe was not the family version. <sigh>
Today during my perambulations a neighbour came out and shouted, "Watch out for the bear!" I peered about nervously and she kept shouting "Behind you!" I finally discovered it was a cub, hidden in the tree on her front lawn. Here is a zoomed photo from about 3 metres.
I decided to take up walking to replace my running addiction while waiting a month after cataract surgery. SInce it is low impact, I have been walking every day instead of every 2nd day. My Garmin watch says this consumes more calories than my running schedule. <still gonna run when my month is up 'cause it IS an addiction>
Karin took a picture of our house in all its fall splendour today. It looks astoundingly good despite the lack of bears, moose or family dogs cluttering up the frame.
Feeling somewhat nostalgic today from watching tiktok videos of Newfoundland dogs. Here is a picture of the last Newf that we owned, Leo. It was taken in 2014. Leo was the last of the one litter of Newfs that Karin bred. Dog breeding is hard work and it is too easy to keep them.
My dog Midna will only play ball if I sit on a chair in the garden. Otherwise she sits patiently with the ball in her mouth and stares at me.
The dogs were barking so we looked in the back yard and discovered the neighbours were having a visitor over. At least it was not another damned bear.
There has been a distinct proliferation of online services in my life. I started with Netflix TV and Facebook social; I now have Netflix, Prime, Disney, & Apple as well as Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, Bluesky, & Mastodon. I don't have time to keep up with leisure activities.

YouTubeI am slowly recovering from my second cataract surgery and have discovered that my once large house is much smaller. Since I am effectively farsighted now after years of myopia, it feels strange to find walls closer than I expect and I can't move closer to see small objects.
