It's me, Spike. Decades ago I put out a punk/new wave zine called "Spike" and people started calling me that and it stuck.
Posts are rooted in the idea that #ArtMatters; creative endeavor lets us access hard-to-reach feelings and emotions, asks challenging questions, exposes us to joy, hope and humanity and allows us to feel connected to ourselves and each other.
I love women and queers in comedy, great plays, musicals, concerts and books. I hate fascism, racism, misogyny, trans/queerphobia.

Although I consider myself completely immune to marketing I clicked on the Apple Music link pointing out it's the 40th anniversary of the release of R.E.M.'s first full length, "Murmur." Listened to this so frequently I still know it by heart but upon today's re-listen I am struck by the strong Mission of Burma influence on "9-9," which is of course track 9 on the album.

"Murmur" 40 years later sounds so fucking good. Thank you Apple Music marketing department.

If you don’t have a cynical bone in your body surely U2’s “Songs of Surrender” will help you generate some real fast.

I'm not about to give away the identity of Spike Magazine's band of the year 2022 but you should definitely take an ear gander at WMFO.org. Starting at 10:30pm Eastern you can listen to a studio performance by the resplendent The Chelsea Curve.

Before Sean Baker made “The Florida Project,” he made my favorite Christmas movie, “Tangerine,” (2015), shot on iPhone5s. So good, I watch it every year.
I had a hard time sleeping on Final Committee Meeting Eve. Now I’m worried the “family pack” of popcorn won’t be enough. #Jan6CommitteeHearing

My pitch for a more modern remake of "The Phantom of The Opera:: This time, the Phantom is a woman and the opera is “The Hours.”

So many timelines and emotions and tragedy. FOUR (count 'em, FOUR) divas. I'd call my self a genius if I didn't know real geniuses don't do that. I hope somebody is writing my ideas down.

I am in absolute love with "peste" magazine and may have taken ages more to find it were it not for a link put up by @gregggonsalves

It has the spunk and sass of SPY Magazine and the dark humor of Diseased Pariah News, two publications that were key to my mental survival of the early AIDS disasters.

Funded by reader donations and if I get some Xmas $ I will definitely share with "peste."

Here's my genius pitch: A new version of "Phantom of The Opera" in which the Phantom is a woman and the opera is "The Hours" based on the Michael Cunningham novel and subsequent movie.
