"I was born in 1994"
- boring
- heard it before
- tells you nothing
"I was born in the year of Cotton Eye Joe"
- arouses curiosity
- who was Cotton Eye Joe
- where did he come from?
- where did he go?
- Cotton Eye Joe

One funny thing I've noticed about all the new micro-blogging sites is how they all want to rename basic functions according to their branding.
Like, if you had a new site called Picklr, a post would be called a "gerkin", and repost would be called a "cornichon", a like would be called a "relish" and so forth.
And they all encourage branded hashtags, like you have to say #PicklrMovies or #PicklrJazz or #HerpetologistsOfPicklr...
Even if he hadn’t written three of the most-loved #DoctorWho stories, Chris Boucher would be a legend for just this line:
"You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views, which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering."
RIP Chris 💙💙
I dreamed I saw John Mastodon last night,
Alive as you or me
Says I, "But John, you're ten years dead,"
"I never died," says he.
"I never died," says he.
"The birdsite bosses killed you, John,
They shot you, John,” says I.
"Takes more than guns to kill a man,"
Says John, “I didn't die,"
Says John, “I didn't die."
And standing there as big as life
And smiling with his eyes
Says John, “What they forgot to kill
Went on to organize,
Went on to organize."
Tom Lehrer has put all his songs online (including lyrics & sheet music), and given away all rights to them. The site will only be up for a limited time. This is a very niche tweet that will make a small segment of people very happy. https://tomlehrersongs.com/
These are the 10 largest countries in the world imagined at the equator for size comparison.
They look different because a traditional Mercator map distorts countries, making them appear larger toward the poles.
