TIL that on May 4, 1723, Boston selectmen, concerned that "great numbers of persons have very lately been transported from Ireland into this Province," voted to require all people arriving or recently arrived from Ireland to register with the town clerk... because "if due care not be taken" they could become a town charge or "be otherwise prejuditial to the well fair & prosperity of the Place."
