Fine words butter no parsnips. Bookseller, now based in deepest Nottinghamshire, after many years in beautiful downtown Winchester.

So, after Henman Hill and Murray Mound, what's next? Broady Bump? #Wimbledon2023 #TheTennis
Hugely enjoying the current series of Race Across The World (BBC) as both travelogue and character study, but I am continually reminded of Biddy Baxter's useful rule of documentary filmmaking: where is the camera and *how did it get there* ?
Spoilers for a 60 year old film, but there's this episode of the Edgar Wallace Mysteries called The Main Chance (1964) in which our hero (Edward de Souza) connives to steal a wedge of money from a *bad* baddie (Gregoire Aslan), and at the end he... gets away with it. That's it. No recriminations, no ironic destruction of the loot, no "actually I was a policeman all along"-type revelations. I asked @Brooligan once, and he wasn't sure, so can anyone tell me - was this a first?
Twitter died because what was once a space for openness and connection metastasized into a space for warring certainties. There is a cautionary metaphor in its demise — an important thing to guard against within ourselves.
Currently wrestling with sentences in my MA dissertation, due sooner rather than later, and learning lines for The Nottingham Passion (books down at the end of February). All prayers, thoughts, and other good vibes gratefully received...
@hardy24 Nice. Good luck.
@hardy24 Are you moving over here, then?
I'm in this, giving my best Caiaphas. If you're around on Friday 31st March or Saturday 1st April, please come along. Tickets available from https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/nottinghampassion
I actually really like a lot of modern worship music and find it often as theologically meaningful as old hymns. Just as shouldn't stereotype people based on the groups we are more comfortable with, the same goes with music.
Just because I grew up hearing it, that doesn't make it better.

@matthewsweet Also extraordinary, the "all coppers are..." moment when Bernard Lee is interviewing the child who found the gun...
