Letter from me to The Times emphasising the importance of #LivedExperience in #mentalhealth care following the recent outrage from people outside our field.
As I haven't worked out how to use Mastodon, here is a picture of some #penguins that I love.

There is a move in mental health services towards short-term intervention, regardless of if your illness is chronic. It’s wild that we are expected to have short-term ā€˜episodes of care’ or do ā€˜pieces of work’ for illness that is long-term

It is financially driven and has nothing to do with the reality of my madness

#MadMastodon

I will be on the bird site next week but someone's gunning for me and haven't the spoons this week xx

"Knowing that more could have been done to save my son's life is almost too much to bear, and I will simply never recover from my loss."

Inadequate levels of communication, care and record keeping contributed to the death of 23-year-old, Jayden Booroff. Yet another damning verdict into Essex mental health services.

We need immediate action not promises 'lessons will be learned' now.

Had my first upsetting comment on here. It’s not anything reportable, just someone pushing back against my #MadMastodon list that people from the #MadTwitter community asked for and willingly gave their names to. It’s left me feeling deflated. But I have to remember that I had deflating interactions *all the time* before I moved here. So I guess one in three weeks isn’t bad. But still.
@Shrink_at_Large @MarieAnne @TenaciousG this came up on my Facebook and I thought immediately of all of us!

It is easy to blame ā€œbad applesā€ to protect our collective fantasy of angelic NHS staff. But life is more complicated than this, as are the dynamics in health systems https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/nov/10/england-mental-health-services-compassion-scandals-patients

This is spot on from @Shrink_at_Large IMO, it's too easy to blame a lack of funding for what's actually a lack of ambition

England’s mental health care lacks money, yes – but it also lacks compassion

A series of scandals should focus minds on the punitive conditions far too many patients are confined in, says clinical psychologist Jay Watts

We had our AMHP core day on Friday and for the first time in 20 yrs 2 of the lecturers, who were both inpatient consultants mentioned iatrogenic harm caused by admissions
Maybe the tide is turning
