When those who govern are opponents of government, you should not expect effective government.

The root of today's problem is that Reagan's claim that "The government is the problem" has replaced Lincoln's claim that government should be "of, by, and for" the people.

Lincoln equated government with the people while Reagan set the government and the people in opposition to each other. During the last 40 years, we've seen the effect of Reagan's words.

Reagan was wrong.
